Cooling the Urban Heat
A practical plan for cooling and shading urban spaces
“Tactical Shading” is a unique project aimed at producing a practical work plan for all cities and authorities in Israel. The fact that a tree and a shading-net moderate temperature in their environment is known and clear. However, intelligent use of this basic concept in large-scale urban spaces requires planning, experimentation and examination of the results. “Tactical Shading” operates four practical experimental programs in different cities. In each pilot, natural and artificial solutions are tested and their performance and ability to reduce local heating are tested.
