"Let the Sunshine Cool" – Solar Air-Conditioning for Schools in Eilat
Electric air-conditioning produces a unique environmental disaster. In addition to their high electric consumption which spurts air-pollutants and greenhouse gases into our air – they work for cooling a small volume of air for a short time by heating an immense amount of air and water for long periods.
Solar powered air-conditioning is a promising technology for our hotter and drier planet. Solar air-con uses the physical properties combined in a closed system of refrigerant gases, water and heat exchangers for absorbing indoor heat and discharging it outside the building. The thermal efficiency of Absorption Cooling is 3-fold when compared with our existing Compression Cooling systems.
The Gold-Water School in Eilat will be installing a 40-ton refrigeration solar air-con system during the summer of 2009. The system will integrate into a wide educational program focusing on climate change and clean energy solutions. Eilat's residents replaced their famous, efficient desert coolants during the 1980's for normal air-con systems because the old technology required periodic manual care. "Let the Sunshine Cool" project introduces a new, efficient and care-free system based on the good old concept of heat absorption from dry air.

A solar air-conditioning system. Soon to be seen on roofs in Israel's desert??
